What is Google Nest?
Google Nest is the company’s latest new step in smart home equipment. The system consists of an updated WiFi router along with one or more access points. The system features built-in Google Assistant, which is voice-controlled.
Google first introduced a WiFi system as early as 2016. After undergoing massive rebranding, the new system is the latest in Google’s smart home devices. The system consists of two separate pieces of hardware.
The first part is the advanced WiFi router, that plugs directly into your modem. The second part is the access point, which increases coverage to specific areas in your home. In fact, a new access point can cover an area up to 3,800 square feet. That’s more than most public WiFi systems.
Featuring Google Assistant, Colors and More
Like the Nest Mini Speaker, the WiFi system comes with integrated Google Assitant. This essentially gives it all the features of a smart mini speaker. Currently, you can get access points in the three following colors:
- Mist
- Sand
- Snow
Google claims that the new WiFi system is up to 25% stronger than the one the company introduced in 2016. It also claims the new system is 2 times faster than the previous Google WiFi system. Most importantly, the system is scalable to individual needs. That means you can add access points as needed to extend your network coverage.
Compatability
You can control the Nest WiFi system using the Google Home app that you use to manage other Google smart home devices, like Chromecast. This means you wont have any difficulties granting guest WiFi permissions. It also integrates well with other Google devices like the Nest Hub. The new access points are fully compatible with older Google WiFi systems.
Conclusion
Nest is Google’s rebranded line of smart home devices. In a world where the internet of things or IoT is an increasing phenomenon, Google Nest has great potential. Imagine a smart home full of Nest devices, enhancing the quality of life using a single internet connection! The idea is revolutionary and is making leaps and bounds towards becoming a reality. Of course, I would imagine my household will have an increased dependence on Cox customer service to ensure the connection remains steady. Smart homes will require internet providers to increase reliability and reduce downtime. Let’s see how the ecosystem evolves in the coming years.
